The diverse mission of the Force XXI Army requires a weatherproof multipurpose shelter for both military operations and civilian. The 1940's design and manufacturing techniques used in General Purpose (GP) tents are no longer adequate to support Army operations.   

 The Army's large, bulky and frequently leaky tents provide poor living conditions for troops in the field. Current field fixes include applying seam tape or adding a roof fly, but these are costly and time consuming measures. The Modular General Purpose Tent System (MGPTS) will incorporate the latest design and manufacturing technologies to provide Force XXI with a multipurpose weatherproof shelter for any environment.  
 
     

Description:

The MGPTS is a pole supported, modular and more habitable replacement for the current GP Small, Medium and Large tents. The MGPTS utilizes tensioned fabric to create a structure which distributes wind, rain and snow loads from the fabric directly to the support system. Because of this design, the MGPTS distributes loads more efficiently with lighter support systems than conventional GP tents. The MGPTS serves as billeting, command and control, unit supply and field services shelters. The modular design consists of one type end and intermediate sections, one type side pole and one type center pole. The system is 18 feet wide and can be extended indefinitely by adding 18 foot intermediate sections.
